Want to more about the painting? The portrait of the young lady was painted circa 1850s-1860s judging by her costume and hairstyle. The sitter and the artist are unknown. However, the artist was academically trained and talented, capturing the character of this lady. So one can place this portrait in the context of the period before and during the Civil War. The portrait might have been commissioned or the sitter might have been a friend or relative of the artist.
